In June 2012, the National Board celebrated 25 extraordinary years with an evening reception in the Mansfield Room at the U.S. Capitol. Board of Director’s Chair Governor Bob Wise served as emcee for the night, and was joined by former U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, who spoke about National Board's founding. Michele Cahill, Vice President for National Program of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and Joanne Weiss, Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Education, each remarked on the importance of National Board Certification, while National Board Founding Chair Governor James B. Hunt highlighted National Board's achievements over the past 25 years. As the evening came to a close, Ron Thorpe articulated his vision for the future and the steps he plans to take as the National Board’s new President and CEO.
