In 2007 the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards reached a milestone 20th anniversary. In recognition, the Johnson Foundation invited NBPTS to convene a group of prominent educators at its prestigious Wingspread Conference Center. The focus of the conversation was the role of quality teaching in the nation’s contemporary policy debate surrounding student achievement; and consideration of the National Board’s future direction as the nation’s highly regarded measure of accomplished teaching.
The discussion focused on three papers and formal reactions. We are pleased to share the essence of their remarks.
