Getting It Right: A Comprehensive Guide to Developing and Sustaining Teacher Evaluation and Support Systems
Monday, October 3, 2011
6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (EDT)
Research tells us that teacher effectiveness is the strongest predictor of student achievement. The nationwide call for school transformation, and the acknowledgement that all students deserve great teachers, means that states and school districts are working hard to determine how to best evaluate and support teachers. To get there, they're exploring the ways to assess teachers and to gauge a teacher's effect on student performance and instructional practice.
Drawing from its own experiences in certifying accomplished teachers, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) developed Getting It Right: A Comprehensive Guide to Developing and Sustaining Teacher Evaluation and Support Systems. This informative guide will serve as a much-needed resource for states and districts as they develop their own teacher evaluation and support systems.
These are high-stakes efforts that must be carefully planned, involve teachers, be built around clear and achievable goals and include plans to support teachers at all levels of the teaching profession.
