Catch a Star Teacher

Like you, many educators have discovered the excellent opportunity of National Board Certification.  The number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) has increased each year, with more than 91,000 NBCTs nationwide.  Although the growth has been steady, this number is still less than three percent of the teaching profession.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recently observed: “What if every child had a chance to be taught by a National Board Certified Teacher?  I think the difference it would make in our students’ lives would be extraordinary.”  The National Board and others committed to improving our schools would like those numbers to increase.  We believe more effective and accomplished teachers will benefit the nation as a whole.

As a supporter of NBPTS and NBCTs, your involvement is critical to continuing the excellence of National Board programs. Please join us in our campaign to “Catch a Star Teacher.”

  • Increase National Board visibility in your school.  Hang the “Invest in Excellence” poster in a gathering place in your school and disperse National Board flyers.
  • Hold a recruitment meeting in your school or district.  Extend an invitation to other colleagues, those that you think of as accomplished, to learn about the National Board Certification process, and catch a star teacher.

To help you lead others down the path to excellence, we would like to provide you with a packet containing the following:

  • NBPTS Outreach Toolkit CD, which includes a customizable Power Point presentation and a video to help you with your meeting.
  • Poster, flyers and other materials to help you inform and educate colleagues about the National Board Certification process.
  • A “user survey,” included in the toolkit, so that we can hear about your efforts.  That way we can help you with future recruitment endeavors and you can let us know about the effectiveness of these materials.

If you are willing to spread the word about National Board Certification, please provide your information, and we will get your packet out to you immediately.

Your dedication to accomplished teachers and to the work of the National Board is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your endeavors to catch more stars of the teaching profession and bring them into the NBPTS family.
