Continuing to Evolve

Today, over one million of America’s preK-12 school children are under the daily supervision of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). With more than 55,000 NBCTs nationwide, accomplished teaching is now richly embedded in the fabric of American education and is widely recognized as a critical catalyst in improving student achievement. As the number of NBCTs reaches and exceeds its "tipping point" and as the role and impact of National Board Certification evolves, NBPTS will continue to evolve with it.

NBPTS pledges to:

  • Expand the use of technology to streamline and simplify the submissions and evaluation processes
  • Play a crucial role in helping to implement the federal No Child Left Behind Law requiring that all schools have highly qualified teachers
  • Help define and support new roles for NBCTs, including mentoring other teachers in their classrooms, speak out on teacher quality issues and serving as exemplars of highly accomplished teaching
  • Continue to work with states and districts to increase the rewards of highly accomplished teaching through increased pay, improved working conditions and greater professional opportunities

Through these efforts, NBPTS and the teachers it certifies will play an even more crucial role in building an education system where teacher quality is no longer a question or a concern, but a fact demonstrated by a significant percentage of teachers who have earned the right to be called a National Board Certified Teacher.
