Statement of Purpose
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is seeking proposals from accredited, non profit IHEs and other PDPs to support Take One! participants and National Board candidates by becoming an NBPTS Professional Teaching Development Center. The goal of these centers is to improve teaching quality by increasing the number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) throughout California, particularly in low-performing schools. Awards will be issued to support up to five centers. Strong consideration will be given to proposals that include a specific strategy to work closely with schools receiving Quality Education Investment Act (QEIA) funds. Review the entire RFP.
Requested Services
NBPTS expects that these centers will actively recruit and support participants for Take One! and candidates for National Board Certification, as well as engage in a series of activities to build awareness of NBPTS. In addition, the Centers will leverage other funding available to public schools in California for professional development activities. The primary activities of the Centers are to:
- provide support to Take One! Participants and National Board Certification Candidates and Advanced Candidates;
- provide support for QEIA Schools to develop professional learning communities based on NBPTS Standards, Take One! and National Board Certification; and
- provide teacher leadership opportunities for NBCTs.
- The centers are required to identify and hire a center Coordinator;
- provide physical space, administrative support, office equipment, etc.;
- handle all administrative and fiscal management responsibilities of the center;
- develop awareness, recruitment, and support activities pertaining to NBPTS offerings and services offered in conjunction with the center’s work, pertaining to this offering;
- identify and contract support providers;
- partner with QEIA schools to leverage other available professional development funds to support professional development activities based on NBPTS Standards, Take One! and National Board Certification;
- provide data and other information specified by NBPTS for regular scheduled center evaluations; and
- attend/participate in NBPTS meetings and participate in conference calls and other mutually-agreed upon activities.
