GlaxoSmithKline Endowed Scholarship Fund
Through a generous $1 million endowment, GlaxoSmithKline provides scholarships to science teachers nationwide. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates pursuing certification in the Early Adolescence/Science or Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science. Scholarships are not available at this time. Please return to the site in spring 2010.

State Farm^® Companies Foundation
State Farm provides scholarships to first-time candidates. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in downstate Illinois.

Edward B. Rust Jr. Scholarship Fund
The Edward B. Rust Jr. Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to first-time candidates in Illinois seeking certification. Mr. Rust, the Chairman and CEO of State Farm, is a strong advocate and supporter of National Board Certification to improve teacher quality across the country. This fund supports first-time candidates pursuing National Board Certification as part of the Master Certificate in Illinois.

The UPS Foundation
UPS provides scholarships to teachers for the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates who teach in Arizona and are pursuing certification in Early and Middle Childhood/Literacy: Reading Language Arts.

Boeing
Boeing provides scholarships to teachers in Southern California for the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. Eligible teachers must teach in one of the following Southern California school districts:

• Compton Unified School District
• Huntington Beach Union High School District
• Ocean View School District
• Anaheim City School District
• Anaheim Union School District
• Eastside Union School District
• Lancaster Unified School District
• Simi Valley Unified School District

Southwestern Pennsylvania
Teachers seeking candidacy in Southwestern Pennsylvania are encouraged to contact the program coordinator and submit a scholarship application.

Judy Wolpe Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Judy Wolpe Endowed Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a teacher in Michigan or the District of Columbia each year. To be eligible, a teacher must be a first-time candidate in these areas. The scholarship, made possible through gifts in memory of Judy Wolpe, will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis in late 2010.

National Board Scholarship Fund
The National Board Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to first-time candidates seeking certification in the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. Funding is made possible from donations by:

• National Board Certified Teachers
• NBPTS Staff
• NBPTS Board Members
• Pi Lambda Theta

NBCTs are eligible to become members of Pi Lambda Theta, a national professional honor society for educators.

Northrop Grumman
Northrop Grumman provides scholarships to first-time candidates in the math, science and elementary generalist certificates for the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. First priority will be given to math and science teachers. Eligible teachers must participate in a candidate support program offered by one of California's new Professional Teaching Development Centers.

Interested candidates should submit an NBPTS scholarship application and send an e-mail to the appropriate center, copying the NBPTS scholarship manager.

GlaxoSmithKline
Scholarships from GlaxoSmithKline are also available to first-time candidates teaching in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and Philadelphia Public Schools. Scholarships of up to $500 are also available for re-take candidates teaching in the Greater Research Triangle area of North Carolina (Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools, Chatham County Public Schools, Durham County Public Schools, Franklin County Public Schools, Granville County Public Schools, Harnett County Public Schools, Johnston County Public Schools, Lee County Public Schools, Orange County Public Schools, Person County Public Schools and Wake County Public Schools). Eligible teachers must be seeking certification in the following fields:

• Early Childhood/Generalist
• Middle Childhood/Generalist
• Early Adolescence/Science
• Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science

Georgia-Pacific
Georgia-Pacific provides scholarships for Atlanta Public School teachers seeking certification. Eligible teachers must be first-time or advanced candidates (maximum of $500 per teacher re-taking entries) who teach in the Atlanta Public Schools. Interested candidates should send an e-mail to the program coordinator, copy the scholarship manager and submit a scholarship application.

The Pittsburgh Initiative II
The Pittsburgh Initiative II provides scholarships for Pittsburgh Public School teachers and state licensed school counselors seeking National Board Certification during the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. The Pittsburgh Initiative II scholarship fund is made up of generous contributions from the Pittsburgh Foundation, the Grable Foundation and the Heinz Endowments. Eligible teachers must be first-time or re-take candidates.

Pfizer
Pfizer provides scholarships to first-time candidates in Groton, Connecticut.
Eligible teachers must teach mathematics, science, language arts or health/physical education in Groton Public Schools. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested candidates should e-mail the program coordinator and should submit a scholarship application.

Chase
Chase provides scholarships to teachers in Utah for the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. Funds are available in Utah for first-time, re-take or Take One! candidates.

American Association of Teachers of French
The Florida Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French provides $500 scholarships to first-time candidates. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in Florida pursuing Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood/World Languages Other Than English French and be an active national and state AATF member. Funds are limited so interested candidates should contact the chapter president for an application or visit the Web site.

Stuart Foundation
The Stuart Foundation provides scholarships to first-time, re-take and Take One! candidates for the 2010-2011 candidate cycle. Eligible teachers must participate in a candidate support program offered by one of California's new Professional Teaching Development Centers. Interested candidates should submit an NBPTS scholarship application and send an e-mail to the appropriate center, copying the NBPTS scholarship manager.

CITGO

CITGO provides scholarships only for Corpus Christi Independent School District teachers seeking certification. Eligible teachers must be first-time or re-take candidates in CCISD. Awards for first-time candidates are $750, and awards for re-take candidates cover 75 percent of the total cost of up to four entries. Interested candidates should send an e-mail to the scholarship manager and submit a scholarship application.

Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation

The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation provides scholarships to mathematics and science teachers in its operating locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Washington. First priority is given to these operating locations until December 1 of each year when science and math teachers in other areas across the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation states, as well as teachers in the early childhood and middle childhood generalist fields, become eligible to receive for scholarships if funding remains for any given cycle.

Teachers can apply immediately if they are seeking certification in Early Adolescence/Science, Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science, Early Adolescence/Mathematics, and Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Mathematics.

Teachers in Career and Technical Education may also apply if they can prove they teach science and/or math in a pathway, such as

• Agricultural & Environmental Sciences (science)
• Business, Marketing, Information Management & Entrepreneurship (mathematics)
• Health Services (science)
• Manufacturing & Engineering Technology (mathematics and science)

and meet the additional criteria detailed below.

First-time, re-take and Take One! candidates teaching in:

• Craven County and Washington County districts in North Carolina 

• Broken Bow and Wright City districts in Oklahoma

Re-take, Take One! and First-time candidates teaching in:

• Aberdeen, Chehalis, Centralia, Cosmopolis, Federal Way, Hoquiam, Longview, and Raymond districts in Washington

Re-take and Take One! candidates teaching in:
• Lamar and Wilcox County districts in Alabama
• DeQueen and Dierks districts in Arkansas, Calhoun County, Columbus, Lowndes County, Neshoba County, Pike County, and Philadelphia districts in Mississippi

Re-take candidates teaching in:
• Lincoln and Natchitoches Parish districts in Louisiana.

Governor Hunt Scholarship Fund

The Governor Hunt Endowed Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a science teacher each year. Governor Hunt, the founding chair of the National Board, is a strong advocate and a steadfast supporter of National Board Certification and effective policies supporting the teaching profession. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates pursuing certification in Early Adolescence/Science or Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science. The scholarship will be awarded in spring 2010.

Friends of Philly Scholarship Fund

Friends of Philly provides scholarships up to $1250 to first-time candidates who are not eligible to receive funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Unlike other scholarships, the Friends of Philly scholarship has a repayment commitment that binds candidates who withdraw and those who achieve certification to repay the scholarship. Eligible candidates are employed under contract with the School District of Philadelphia and are engaged in the support program offered through Temple University. Interested candidates should submit a Friends of Philly scholarship application.

Friends of Florida

Friends of Florida provides scholarships of up to $1,250 to first-time candidates who are not eligible to receive fee subsidy funds through the Florida state subsidy administrator. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in Florida. Interested candidates should send an e-mail to the scholarship manager and submit a scholarship application. Candidates who have previously, or are currently in the process of obtaining federal monies to pay the assessment fee (such as from TIF, Title I or Title II monies which may be available through your school or school district) are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Friends of Alaska

Friends of Alaska provides scholarships to first-time candidates who are not eligible to receive fee subsidy funds through the Alaska state subsidy administrator. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in Alaska. Interested candidates should submit a scholarship application.

The Roy E. Barnes Scholarship Fund

The Roy E. Barnes Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a teacher in Georgia. Governor Barnes, the chair of the NBPTS Board of Directors, has supported National Board Certification as a way to both encourage and reward great teaching. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in Georgia. Currently, all funds have been allocated.

The Rebecca A. Palacios Scholarship Fund

The Rebecca A. Palacios Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a teacher in Texas. Dr. Palacios served as the vice chair of NBPTS Board of Directors, 2003-2009, and as a founding board member, 1987-1994, of the organization. She has the distinction of becoming the first director to pursue and achieve National Board Certification. Eligible teachers must be first-time candidates teaching in Texas. Currently, all funds have been allocated.

Friends of South Carolina 

Friends of South Carolina provides scholarships to first-time candidates who teach in South Carolina. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come/first-served basis. Interested candidates should submit a scholarship application.
