Identify Prospective Candidates

Start With Teachers You Know

Look around your school to identify possible candidates:

• The colleague who likes to be challenged
• Someone who enjoys teaching and works to meet high standards
• A teacher who has asked you about National Board Certification
• A person who may already be thinking about becoming a candidate but needs your extra encouragement
  
  

Look Outside Your School or School System

Reach out to teachers in other schools and other districts:

• Host a meeting focused on National Board Certification and reasons that teachers should consider the process
• Offer a short presentation at a faculty meeting
• Stay after a faculty meeting and seek out individuals to speak to
• If a school in your area has no NBCTs, contact faculty members to personally discuss the benefits of the process
• Look for potential candidates at your regional, state or national professional organization meetings
