Provide Candidate Support

After achieving National Board Certification®, becoming a candidate support provider is an excellent way to share expertise with current candidates, while continuing to grow as an educator.

Candidates often report that sound candidate support helped tremendously in pursuit of National Board Certification. Support providers help candidates better analyze and reflect on their practice as it relates to the NBPTS Standards.

Candidate support providers encourage and motivate candidates through the best professional development they will ever experience by:
  • Promoting candidate ownership of the certification process and their growth as teaching professionals
  • Helping candidates understand the certification process including the standards, what it means to demonstrate evidence of the standards in practice, and distinguishing between descriptive, analytical and reflective writing
  • Encouraging critical thinking and self-reflection throughout the process

CSP Training Program

NBPTS offers a dynamic Candidate Support Provider (CSP) Training Program to NBCTs (and others) who are new or experienced support providers. The curriculum serves as an excellent foundation for all candidate support efforts and programs. Participants receive valuable information and answers to frequently asked questions about candidate support, such as:

  • What resources and materials are available to candidates and how can they use them to make informed decisions?
  • How can support providers focus candidates on what is truly important?
  • What are the common misconceptions about the NBPTS assessment program?
  • What policies and guidelines safeguard the certification process?
  • What should candidates know about the scoring process?
  • What does effective candidate support look like?

CSP Training is not offered on an individual basis at this time. To find out if CSP Training is offered in your area, contact your local school district or look on your district Web site.
