Utah NBCT Wins NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence
(May 4, 2010) NBCT Sharon Gallagher-Fishbaugh, a second-grade teacher from Utah, recently received the NEA Foundation's top award for teaching excellence.
(April 28, 2010) For the third time in the past five years, a National Board Certified Teacher will represent the country as National Teacher of the Year. Sarah Brown Wessling, an English teacher at Johnston High School, in Johnston, Iowa, will be named the 2010 National Teacher of the Year by President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony on April 29, 2010.
(April 21, 2010) National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) continue to receive top honors in the teaching profession despite representing about 3 percent of the nation’s teaching population. Today, the National Teacher Hall of Fame announced its 2010 inductees and four of the five outstanding educators selected are NBCTs.
(April 9, 2010) Two of the five school districts recently named finalists by the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation for the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education each boast a cadre of National Board Certified Teachers that makes up about five percent or more of their district’s total teaching force. This percentage of outstanding teachers who have achieved National Board Certification is roughly twice the national average.
(April 7, 2010) The Washington Post Company Educational Foundation recently announced the winners of the annual Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Awards and National Board Certified Teachers make up one-quarter of the honorees. Agnes Meyer, the wife of Eugene Meyer, publisher of The Washington Post from 1933 to 1946, was a strong supporter of public education. The awards were established in her name to recognize dedicated teachers who have shown initiative, creativity and an exceptional degree of professionalism in teaching.
