Alabama Candidate Financial Support

Alabama is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education and the state of Alabama . Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available

Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
The state will pay the assessment fee for teachers who pass the Alabama Screening and Selection Process for National Board Certification. Subsidy funds allocated by NBPTS are used only for this group of teachers. Payment of the assessment fee obligates the teacher to teach in Alabama public schools for five years. Failure to do so will make the teacher liable to the state for the amount of the fee paid to National Board.  Click on Alabama Department of Education link below to view Alabama DOE application and deadlines. Deadline to apply:  March 12, 2008.

Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The Alabama Department of Education will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support legislation that pays the fee for up to 100 candidates. NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds will be used to support candidates at 50% of the $2500 certification fee. Alabama has an NBPTS Screening & Selection Panel. DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 12, 2008.

Funding Available Retake Candidates
Alabama does not provide funds for retake candidates.
