Arizona Candidate Financial Support

Arizona is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
In Arizona, National Board Certification is a collaborative effort between the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Education Association, Arizona State University, and the Arizona K12 Center. The Arizona Department of Education coordinates the NBPTS Candidate Subsidy Program by providing fee support for up to half of the fee for candidates seeking certification. Arizona State University, through an endowment from the Bank of America and in collaboration with the Arizona Education Association and the Arizona K12 Center, provides facilitation support to all candidates seeking National Board Certification. Deadlines to apply: December 31, 2008


Funding Available Retake Candidates
The Arizona Department of Education will provide funding to retake candidates if they have not received federal funding assistance in the past.

Several organizations provide scholarship support to candidates pursuing National Board Certification. For more information, visit the Scholarship page.

State Information


Arizona teachers with a current or new certificates must participate in 180 hours of professional development activities in order to renew their standard certificates during each valid six-year period. National Board Certification is recognized as having met the requirements for a standard certificate in the corresponding educational area in Arizona, and as a means of meeting the professional growth requirement for renewal.
