Georgia Candidate Financial Support

Georgia is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education and the state of Georgia. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Please visit the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Web site for an announcement, procedures and deadlines for funds available to eligible teachers seeking prepayment of a portion of the fees to NBPTS. Applications will be taken this Fall from the Georgia public school educator who: 

  1. Works fulltime in a ""needs improvement" schoo as identified by the Georgia Department of Education
  2. Holds a clear renewable Georgia teaching certificate
  3. Has three years teaching experience
  4. Has never previously been a candidate to NBPTS    
  5. Deadline to apply: December 31, 2008

State Information


Georgia Code 20-2-212.2 and Eligibility Requirements for State or State-Managed Funds in Prepayment, Reimbursement, or Salary Incentives

Legislation in May 2005 changed the benefits for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) candidates after March of 2005 and for those who achieve National Board Certification after November of 2005. The legislation ties eligibility to "high-needs" schools. Visit the Georgia General Assembly Web site to view the law.  


State funds are available to reimburse eligible NBCTs for personally paid initial application fees up to $2,000 per person.  Visit www.gapsc.com and click on the NB icon for current information.  Be sure to check for program updates after each Georgia General Assembly closes in the spring. 

 

Announcement for Current NBCTs Regarding Verification of Eligibility to Receive Incentives 
To view the recent correspondence from the Georgia Department of Education regarding major changes in identification of eligibility for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification Salary Supplement - FY07, visit the Georgia Department of Education Web site and read the item in the Documents section titled, "Important Changes for National Board Certified Educators." Questions about the changes in eligibility to receive the salary supplement should be addressed to Greg Benton at 404-656-5856, or by e-mail at gbenton@doe.k12.ga.us.  To verify that an NBCT has been added to individual Georgia teaching certificates, please visit Georgia Professional Standards Commission Web site, enter the educator's SSN or Certification ID and scroll to the bottom of the page to view the NBCT designation. If the designation is not displayed, please contact NBCT@gapsc.com and provide your full legal name, social security number, candidate identification number and current mailing address.
