New Mexico Candidate Financial Support

New Mexico is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

This page reflects the most recent information available to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards at the time of posting. Incentives listed below are offered at the discretion of the individual local agencies or contracts and are subject to change. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is not responsible for the accuracy of the information found herein. Please contact the appropriate local or state agency directly to confirm the incentives listed and contact us with any updates at outreach@nbpts.org.

 

• National Board Certified Teachers in New Mexico receive an annual stipend which is equal to 1.5 program units.  As the amount of a program unit varies from year to year, so does the stipend.  For the 2008 fiscal year, a program unit is equal to $3,892.47 making the stipend $5,838.71.  For current information regarding the stipend amount, please check the Teach New Mexico Web site.

• National Board Certification is an approved route for advancing in the 3-Tier Teacher Licensure System and takes the place of strands A, B and C of the Professional Development Dossier.  Strands D and E must still be submitted.

• The state of New Mexico has signed the 2005-2010 NASDTEC Interstate Contract and will award their highest level certificate to any person who has obtained National Board Certification in an area corresponding to that for which certification is sought, provided the applicant also holds a comparable and valid certificate issued by any Member state and has complied with any requirements of the receiving state regarding experience, degrees held, citizenship, and moral, ethical, physical, and mental fitness and completion of any post-baccalaureate study required by the receiving Member.
