Texas Candidate Financial Support

Texas is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the $2,500 assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The Texas Education Agency will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support candidates at 50 percent of the certification fee as long as subsidy funds are available. Candidates are responsible for submitting the unsubsidized portion of the fee to NBPTS. Applications will be reviewed to determine eligibility and candidates will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Candidates must meet NBPTS eligibility guidelines. Deadline to Apply: March 27-December 31, 2008


Funding Available Retake Candidates

Texas does not provide funding for retake candidates.

Scholarships


Several organizations provide scholarship support to candidates pursuing National Board Certification. For more information, visit the Scholarship page.

State Information


The Texas State Board for Educator Certification determined that passing scores on any National Board Certification assessments may be used in lieu of Texas certification exams for individuals certified outside of the state of Texas. Individuals who have passed assessments are exempt from both content and pedagogy Texas assessments.
