Maine Candidate Financial Support

Maine is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education and the state of Maine. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
The Maine Department of Education will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support candidates.


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The Maine Department of Education will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support candidates at 50 percent ($1,250) of the National Board Certification fee.
Deadline to apply:  April 1-December 31, 2008 


Funding Available Retake Candidates
Retake candidates who did not receive federal subsidy funds to support their initial candidacy are eligible to receive up to $700 for two retake entries/exercises.

Scholarships


Several organizations provide scholarship support to candidates pursuing National Board Certification. For more information, visit the Scholarship page.

State Information


Support for National Board Candidates includes:
• The Maine Education Association provides a formal support program for National Board candidates. This program consists of a series of Saturday workshops led by National Board Certified Teachers. For more information please go to: Maine Candidate Support Program 
• Additionally, the Maine Education Association has a list of trained candidate support providers who have agreed to answer questions and may be willing to work with individuals as they go through the process.

 

Support for National Board Certified Teachers includes:
• Incentives available to NBCT’s in Maine include an annual stipend of $3000 to any NBCT who teaches in their area of certification and for the life of his or her contract.

• The state of Maine has signed the 2005-2010 NASDTEC Interstate Contract and will award their highest level   certificate to any person who has obtained National Board Certification in an area corresponding to that for which certification is sought, provided the applicant also holds a comparable and valid certificate issued by any Member state and has complied with any requirements of the receiving state regarding experience, degrees held, citizenship, and moral, ethical, physical, and mental fitness, and completion of any post-baccalaureate study   required by the receiving Member.
