National Board Certification can potentially be a three year process – your initial year of candidacy and two years immediately following as retake opportunities. As a matter of standard practice, each portfolio or assessment center score for candidates who do not achieve certification are automatically banked. This allows candidates to retake any combination of entries and/or exercises in which they did not meet the individual performance standard of 2.75.
If your three opportunities pass without certification, then you can start the process anew as a first-time candidate.
