Is NBCT for me?  Of course! In the year 2000 when I achieved National Board certification, nobody in my district had attempted nor had achieved certification. So I decided to take that plunge! In 1998, a colleague came to my classroom and talked with me about National Board Certification – a new challenge for accomplished teachers. The National Board is governed by a 29-member board of directors, the majority of whom are National Board Certified Teachers and teaching professionals. The other directors include a former state commissioner of education, school board leaders, higher education officials, union leaders, and community leaders.

The Certification Council was established by the NBPTS Board of Directors to guide implementation and evaluation of National Board’s certification program. The Council evaluates, prepares and proposes policies to the Board of Directors regarding the certification program, focusing on standards and assessment development and revision.

The Technical Advisory Group was established by the National Board to support assessment, psychometric, and certification efforts by providing guidance to the Certification Council and staff on best practices related to validity, reliability, accuracy, and fairness.
