Advancing Accomplished Teaching

The National Board builds strong partnerships with states, districts, associations and other likeminded organizations to advance accomplished teaching and to spread the expertise of accomplished teachers.

National Education Association

National Board partners with NEA in a number of ways.

Notably, Jump Start is a three-day training that supports candidates for Board certification. The program runs in over 40 NEA and AFT affiliates across the country. The NEA member benefit continues to be a NBCT designed and led program.

ACTE

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is the nation’s largest not-for-profit association committed to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers. ACTE represents the community of CTE professionals, including educators, administrators, researchers, guidance counselors and others at all levels of education.

ACTE and the National Board work to promote a greater understanding of the pivotal role that accomplished teaching plays in preparing students for college and career success. Soon, National Board and ACTE will create online professional learning resources that are responsive to the needs identified by CTE teachers for ongoing professional development.

Educators Rising

National Board served as a partner and advisor to the Educators Rising Standards Committee, which authored the seven standards that define what high school students exploring teaching need to know and be able to do to take their first steps on the path to accomplished teaching. The standards represent a new, shared vision from the field; the teaching profession is mapping the front end of a coherent continuum, from the initial exploratory phase to entry into the profession to becoming an accomplished practitioner.

Literacy Design Collaborative

The Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) is supported by a national network of partners and 75,000+ teachers committed to changing the way students experience reading and writing in school. LDC offers products and services that equip teachers to create and utilize vetted tasks, lessons and modules that effectively teach reading, writing, speaking and listening in all subjects. The LDC and National Board have created a set of courses that build off of proven methods: LDC professional learning offerings include CoreTools, a guided online experience that supports teachers in planning, creating, and thinking through LDC modules, and National Board’s body of knowledge of accomplished practice.

GSK

GSK (formerly GlaxoSmithKlein) is a science-led global healthcare company with a mission to help people to do more, feel better, and live longer. For educators, GSK has a long-standing commitment to helping students discover the wonders of science and consider a career in science one day.

Among a number of programs to achieve this goal, GSK generously funds scholarships for science teachers pursuing National Board Certification. These scholarships are available to science teachers anywhere in the United States. GSK’s commitment to science education helps assure that more children have the opportunity to learn from an accomplished science teacher who can support their love and mastery of science and help prepare them for a career in science.
