Washington, D.C. -- Leaders of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs), and other education experts briefed the education policy community about reports and studies, which review the impact of NBCTs and National Board Certification.
The briefing provided an overview of recent National Board initiatives and a brief update on NBPTS plans to launch a new voluntary, advanced principal certification system that encourages and supports the growth of administrators.
Also during the briefing, representatives from the Center for Teaching Quality released an overview of the new report, Measuring What Matters: The Effects of National Board Certification on Advancing 21st Century Teaching and Learning (PDF -- 674KB). The report documents a study conducted by 10 NBCTs who examined the effects of National Board Certification within the context of 21st century teaching and learning.
NBPTS also released a new report, Voices of Influence: Advancing High-Quality Teaching through National Board Certification (PDF -- 1MB). The report reflects presentations, discussions and follow up interviews involving participants in the conference, 20/20: Clarifying a Vision for Quality Teaching, held last fall in conjunction with the National Board’s 20th anniversary at the Johnson Foundation Wingspread Conference Center in Racine, Wis.
