NBPTS recognizes the importance of collaboration with higher education institutions and other education providers to boost the quality of teaching in this country and provide a continuum of support for potential or current candidates for National Board Certification.
Housed at higher education institutions in California, Pennsylvania, Florida and Illinois, the resource centers provide candidate support, coursework, mentoring and other professional development. The goal is to strengthen teaching and learning in the classroom.
NBPTS is continuously creating guidelines and tools for colleges and universities interested in aligning their degree pre-service programs and in-service professional development programs with NBPTS standards.
Many studies have examined National Board Certification and the vast majority found NBCTs make a significantly measurable impact on teacher performance and student learning, engagement and achievement. The National Research Council report from the National Academies affirms many of the positive findings by other research. Many of these studies are conducted by university researchers.
