Oklahoma Candidate Financial Support

Oklahoma is pleased to announce that funding is available to help offset the cost of the assessment fee. This funding is made possible through a Federal Subsidy grant from the United States Department of Education. Please read the information below for specific details, deadlines and contact information.

Funding Available


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates State Funding
Education Leadership Oklahoma (ELO), with funds appropriated by the State Legislature, provides candidate support for Oklahoma educators seeking National Board Certification. Administered by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation, ELO pays the application fee for approximately 400 candidates, offers training with Oklahoma NBCTs and regional coordinators, as well as support mentors from Oklahoma universities. Deadline to apply: February 29, 2008


Funding Available - First-Time Candidates Federal Funding
The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation will utilize any remaining NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to subsidize candidate at up to 50 percent of the certification fee and connect this program with the Oklahoma project supporting teachers during 2008-2009.  Teachers interested in using candidate subsidy funds to help with the fee MUST submit their NBC application through the program administrator.

Funding Available Retake Candidates
The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation will utilize NBPTS Candidate Subsidy funds to support retake candidates for up to two (2) entries/exercises.

State Information


  • Oklahoma provides the following for its National Board Candidates: Administered by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation, Education Leadership Oklahoma (ELO) offers training with Oklahoma NBCTs and regional coordinators, as well as support mentors from Oklahoma universities.
  • Oklahoma provides the following for its National Board Certified Teachers: An annual $5,000 salary stipend (as per regulation) for the life of their certificate.  
  • The state of Oklahoma has signed the 2005-2010 NASDTEC Interstate Contract and will award their highest level certificate to any person who has obtained National Board Certification in an area corresponding to that for which certification is sought, provided the applicant also holds a comparable and valid certificate issued by any Member state and has complied with any requirements of the receiving state regarding experience, degrees held, citizenship, and moral, ethical, physical, and mental fitness, and completion of any post-baccalaureate study required by the receiving Member.
