Program Overview

South Carolina has a history of strong support for National Board Certification through the Center for Educator Recruiting, Retention and Advancement (CERRA). The state ranks third in the nation in total number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs), with 8,663. South Carolina NBCTs receive an annual salary stipend of $5,000 for the life of their certificate.

NBCT Bonus

South Carolina offers NBCTs an annual salary supplement of $5,000 for the life of the certificate.

Fee support

Some local school districts use federal Title monies and/or professional development funds to provide fee support to candidates seeking certification. Please inquire with your principal or central office administrator to see if this is a possibility for you.

Candidate Support

State support: CERRA offers resources to candidates through all stages of the National Board Certification process.  For more information, visit the CERRA website. Teachers associations also provide support for candidates seeking National Board Certification.
