Ray is the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I) and Special Initiatives with the National Arts Education Association where they oversee ED & I initiatives for classroom teachers, museum curators, pre-service teachers, and administrators. Ray has facilitated diversity and equity workshops, led affinity groups, trained with the National SEED Project, and served on the NAEA Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Task Force. They have spent time in a range of art education fields as a classroom art educator, a grade-level dean in Seattle, an administrator in Chicago Public Schools, a museum educator at the Seattle Art Museum, and as an instructor teaching graduate courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Other leadership experiences include facilitating outreach and professional development programs at Chicago’s Hyde Park Art Center, developing school and art partnerships, facilitating professional development workshops and programming across other disciplines including music, dance, drama as well as project-based learning and social justice with the arts. In addition, Ray presently co-facilitates Visual DEI Chats, a platform that includes online dialogues around visual facilitation of tools to engage diversity, equity, and inclusion topics.
