National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Hosted NBCT Candidate Showcase in Clarksdale, MS

Clarkson, MS– On October 30th, 2023, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards hosted a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) Candidate Showcase in Clarkdale, Mississippi, to bring together NBCTs and Candidates and illustrate the positive impact of the Technology Integration for Mississippi Educators (TIME) program across the state.

Local NBCTs and aspiring Board-certified educators took center stage, sharing transformative journeys and unveiling the profound impact National Board certification has had on their classrooms.

The TIME program cohort, launched last summer and funded through Governor Tate Reeves’s second round of Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) aid, has allowed The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and Apple to offer their combined expertise, resources, and networks to directly support Mississippi teachers and impact Mississippi students during a critical moment in education.

This program has supported Mississippi students by providing the research proven-advantage of a National Board Certified Teacher in their classroom. Funding has allowed teachers to pursue National Board certification by removing financial and technology barriers and allowing teachers to participate in the valuable and comprehensive Apple Professional Learning program and integrate iPads into their teaching in the most effective manner. Further resources include virtual and onsite coaching support, access to the Apple Teacher Learning Center, and an extensive library of National Board resources and activities.

The event was an opportunity for members of the TIME cohort to share their journey and showcase the positive changes the process has brought to their classrooms, specifically focusing on how they have integrated technology into their teaching practice.

About the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (www.nbpts.org):

The founding mission of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is to advance the quality of teaching and learning by maintaining high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do, providing a national voluntary system certifying teachers who meet these standards, and advocating related education reforms to integrate National Board Certification in American education and to capitalize on the expertise of National Board Certified Teachers. Recognized as the “gold standard” in teacher certification, the National Board believes higher standards for teachers mean better learning for students.
